To date, the fund has raised more than $5.7 million from more than 3,000 donors. Every gift is driving research and treatment forward, supporting our staff, and allowing MSK to continue providing exceptional care to our patients.
Here’s what your support has made possible:
GREATEST NEEDS
You’ve kept our patients and staff safe by helping purchase personal protective equipment (PPE) and other critical supplies. As global demand for these items increased, they became difficult to find and expensive, with some items reaching nearly 40 times their usual cost.
During the crisis, we used:
2,200 N95 respirators, 32,000 procedure masks, 401,393 gloves, 11,082 isolation gowns, 111 face shields, and 356 hand sanitizer dispenser refills — on a daily basis.
To compare, our 2019 daily averages were much lower at 91 N95 respirators, 8,507 procedure masks, 112,977 gloves, 5,299 isolation gowns, 49 face shields, and 54 hand sanitizer dispenser refills.
RESEARCH AND INNOVATION
From the earliest stages of the pandemic, we shifted some of our research expertise and infrastructure to understand and combat COVID-19. Your support allowed MSK doctors and scientists to improve testing, run clinical trials on potential treatments, and analyze connections between COVID-19 and cancer. We’ve also been able to use technology to improve care and keep patients and staff safe. We exponentially expanded our telemedicine program and have kept patients connected to loved ones even when visitors were not allowed onsite.
EMPLOYEE RELIEF
You allowed us to award grants to more than 3,000 MSK team members to help alleviate the financial burdens they’re experiencing due to the pandemic. Employees have used this money to cover essential household costs such as rent and mortgage payments, utilities, groceries, and childcare.
