Greatest Needs
As global demand for personal protective equipment (PPE) and other critical supplies accelerated, traditional supply chains could not scale up fast enough to meet it. Because of scarcity, prices for some items rose to nearly 40 times their standard cost. Philanthropy helped keep MSK patients and staff safe from COVID-19 through purchases of PPE and other essentials.

Research and Innovation
MSK’s cancer expertise illuminates many aspects of other infectious diseases. Donor support helped us quickly shift toward improving COVID-19 testing, running clinical trials on potential treatments, analyzing connections between the virus and cancer, and expanding telemedicine initiatives — allowing thousands of patients to receive care in their homes and stay connected to loved ones while in the hospital.
Employee Relief
MSK’s healthcare heroes have also been living with the effects of the pandemic, including sudden economic distress when family members become unemployed. More than 3,000 MSK staff members from all reaches of the organization — from nursing assistants to supply clerks — have been awarded grants to help with such essential expenses such as housing, groceries, and childcare.
